As one of the founding and the longest serving members of Scottish band Cosmic Rough Riders, Stephen Fleming has spent 10 years at the band's helm, making 6 studio albums that included 4 Top 40 UK hit singles. Fulfilling multiple roles as singer, songwriter, guitarist/keyboards, producer and the main recording and mix engineer, Fleming has been key to the creative force behind the Cosmic's enduring success.
Currently enjoying a brief hiatus that's allowed respective members to 'be fruitful and multiply', the band attracted considerable critical acclaim with their first two self-produced and released records, which in turn led to notable commercial success through a series of album and singles releases on a variety of independent and major labels throughout the world - all with a very healthy streak of the DIY attitude that drove the band from the beginning.
Earning themselves the deserved moniker of 'Hardest working band in the UK', the band were almost constantly on the road touring during the period 2000 -2006. Headline tours of the UK, continental Europe, Japan and the USA ensured the Cosmics could spread the word about their music to every corner of the globe. And never missing an opportunity to further this endeavour, they've toured with and supported acts as varied as U2, Robert Plant, Lenny Kravitz, Paul Weller, The Black Crowes, Ocean Colour Scene, Stereophonics, The Zutons and Tom Jones.
After touring 2006's Warner Bros release 'The Stars Look Different From Down Here', the band decided that it was time to hang up the guitars for a break, producing several Cosmic unions and offspring in the process. At a time of tremendous upheaval within the music industry, it was, with hindsight, the perfect opportunity to take stock, revitalize and take care of business outside the band's world. Throughout this period, Fleming has continued to write outwith the band, both physically and stylistically.
And while 2009 has seen the band back in discussion to write and record a new Cosmic Rough Riders album (due for release in 2010), Syncmusic.co.uk exists as a one-stop showcase for Fleming's fast-growing and ongoing body of solo work.
